Global Windows Drive Letter

Learn how to change the drive letter for the whole team, the implications of changing it, and how each team member can choose their own.

Updated over a month ago

Default Drive Letter

By default, Suite dynamically assigns your team's drive letter starting with Z: and then proceeding in reverse alphabetical order until it finds an available drive letter.

For example:

  • If Z: is available Suite will mount at Z:.

  • If Z: isn't available, Suite will try mounting at Y:, then X:, and so on.

Setting the Global Drive Letter

⚠️ Updating your team's drive letter is a global change for your whole team, impacting all Windows users who use Suite.

Since changing your team's drive letter also alters the underlying path to all of your files on Suite, you may need to relink media in your projects once you choose a different drive letter.

1. Navigate to Team Configuration (Admin access required).

2. Under Drive Letter:

  1. Select Dynamic (Default) to let Suite choose a drive letter, or select a preferred drive letter.

  2. Click Confirm Drive Letter.

3. All team members must eject (⏏️) Suite and then Mount Drive to see the updated drive letter in File Explorer.

Setting the Local Drive Letter Using the CLI

If the global drive letter is already taken on a team member's PC, they can use Suite's CLI to choose a different drive letter, which will be local to their PC. Learn more...
