Avid Media Composer Optimization Guide

Helpful tips and tricks for optimizing your experience with Avid Media Composer in conjunction with Suite.

Updated over a week ago

⚠️ As a first step, all Avid Media Composer users must implement the steps in this article: Avid's Requirements

Setting the "Search Data Folder" Location

For Media Composer projects on Suite you'll need to ensure the Search Data Folder is set to your local drive, not on Suite.

Emulating Bin Locking

To emulate bin locking while working with Media Composer projects on Suite, you'll need to use a tool called Mimiq.

This tool tells Media Composer that Suite is a shared Avid NEXIS Drive, prompting the creation of lock files when different team members open bins in a shared Project (among other features).

Mimiq has a 10-day free trial you can use in conjunction with your free Suite trial to test this workflow for free.

⚠️ Once you decide to move forward, you'll need a Mimiq Pro license on each workstation that will work in a shared Avid Project with bin locking on Suite.
