Setting the Search Data Folder Location
Set Media Composer's Search Data Folder to Local Default or a local volume, not to a location on Suite.
Workflows
Bin Locking and Bin Refresh
To take advantage of Media Composer’s shared Avid project workflows, Media Composer must recognize a volume as an Avid NEXIS Drive. Then you can collaborate from that volume using bin locking (red and green locks) and bin refresh (yellow and blue locks).
You can do shared Avid Projects from Suite, but how you do that depends on your Media Composer version and operating system.
For Media Composer 2025.12.2 and Older
If you’re using Media Composer 2025.12.2 (an Ultimate or Enterprise subscription or a perpetual license), you can collaborate on Suite using Mimiq by Hedge.
Mimiq tells Media Composer that Suite is an Avid NEXIS Drive, which enables bin locking and bin refresh for shared Avid projects stored on Suite.
For Media Composer Enterprise 2026.8 and Newer
Starting with Media Composer Enterprise 2026.8:
Avid added bin locking and bin refresh for third-party, non-NEXIS shared storage as native features in Media Composer Enterprise.
Avid removed bin locking and bin refresh for third-party, non-NEXIS shared storage on Media Composer Ultimate and perpetual licenses.
If you’re using Suite on macOS, Media Composer Enterprise will see Suite as an Avid NEXIS Drive with no additional software or configuration needed.
If you’re using Suite on Windows, you must mount Suite as a UNC Path mapped to a drive letter before launching Media Composer.
⚠️ Updating your team's drive letter is a global change for your whole team, impacting all Windows users who use Suite.
Since changing your team's drive letter also alters the underlying path to all of your files on Suite, you may need to relink media in your projects once you choose a different drive letter.
