Setting Your Cache Location and Size

Configure your cache settings for optimal performance.

Updated this week

General Recommendations:

  1. Point the cache to either an internal or external solid-state drive (SSD).
Suite is incompatible with hard disk drives (HDDs) because it breaks up your data into small 4MB blobs and stores them in random order. SSDs are optimized for random reads, whereas HDDs are better suited for sequential reads.

  2. Ensure the SSD is not formatted as exFAT. For best performance, we recommend formatting your drive as APFS (Mac), NTFS (Windows), or Ext3/4 and above (Linux). For more information on drive format click here.

  3. Allocate as much storage as you can spare. With a larger cache, frequently accessed data can be retrieved quickly, drastically improving application performance and reducing latency.

Setting Your Cache Location

The cache can be pointed to either an internal or external SSD (Solid State Drive).
Suite is compatible with most high-performance SSDs formatted as APFS for Mac or NTFS for Windows.

⚠️ Avoid using drives formatted as exFAT, and ensure the drive is not named “Suite.” (Click here to learn more about Recommended Drive Formats)

To set the cache to an external drive:

Step 1: Connect the drive to your device

Step 2: Navigate to the “Cache Settings” Page within the Suite application

Step 3: Click “Change Location”

Step 4: Select your external drive and you’re good to go!

Allocated Cache Size

By default, Suite allocates 250 GB, but increasing this allocation is recommended to maximize performance.

💡 The more space you allocate, the more data Suite can cache and quickly retrieve. If possible - allocate at least the size of the project or media you are working on.

To Adjust your Cache Size:

Step 1: Navigate to the “Cache Settings” Page within the Suite application

Step 2: Click “Adjust Size”

Step 3: Enter the Cache size in GB > click “Update Size”

⚠️ Avoid reducing the allocated size unless you no longer need your cached data. Learn more about clearing your cache.
