Tuning Premiere Pro for optimal performance with Suite is quick and straightforward.
Follow these steps to modify Premiere Pro’s Preferences for your computer and set Scratch Disks
locations for your Projects.
Optimizations

)

Media
Disable these settings under Preferences > Media
:

Write clip markers to XMP
Include captions on import
Automatically refresh growing files
✅ Adobe recommends disabling XMP ID writes for improved performance when using Premiere Pro with shared storage such as Suite.
Media Analysis & Transcription
Disable these settings under Preferences > Media Analysis & Transcription
:
Analyze all imported media to visually search your projects
Enable language auto-detection
Media Cache
Under Preferences > Media Cache
, set Media Cache Files > Location
to a local SSD volume.
Memory
Under Preferences > Memory
, tell Premiere Pro how much RAM (system memory) it should save for other applications while it's open.
Playback
Under Preferences > Memory
, turn off Enable Mercury Transit
to minimize Premiere Pro’s system memory (RAM) usage.
Scratch Disks
ℹ macOS and Windows - Premiere Pro > File > Project Settings > Scratch Disks
In most cases, you can set your Scratch Disks
to a location on a super-fast, local volume (e.g. Documents
or a [Custom]
location).
However, when working from shared storage like Suite, Adobe recommends setting Premiere Pro’s Scratch Disks
”to a shared location so render files are shared across every editorial system.”
If you choose Same as Project
for all Scratch Disks
, Premiere Pro stores those render files alongside your Project or Production on Suite.
✅ If you set your Scratch Disks
to a folder on Suite, for best performance, pre-cache your Scratch Disks
in advance.
