Error updating my cache location

Resolve errors encountered when changing your cache location

Updated over a month ago

Getting an error when updating your cache location is primarily due to one of two reasons:

1. The cache drive name starts with "Suite"
2. The cache drive format is exFAT

The cache drive's name starts with "Suite"

⚠️ Naming your cache drive anything that starts with "Suite" will lead to an error and prevent you from updating the cache location.

To resolve this issue, choose a different name for your drive that does not begin with "Suite" and update your cache location.

Renaming your drive:

  1. Open Finder / File Explorer and locate your cache drive.

  2. Right-click on the drive and select "Rename."

  3. Choose a new name for your drive that does not start with "Suite." (ex. "MyCache")

Updating the cache location: Navigate to "Cache Settings" > click "Change Location" > select your drive!

If the error persists after following these steps, please contact our support team for further assistance.

The cache drive's format is exFAT

⚠️ exFAT is not a viable format for Suite's Cache

🤔 Why can't I use exFAT as a cache drive format?

exFAT is extremely inefficient if you produce lots of small files. Suite caches in 4MB blocks meaning, a TB of cached data would be 250K files. For this reason, we always recommend not using the exFAT format as it will significantly reduce the performance of cached data.

How do I change the format of my drive?

⚠️ IMPORTANT Formatting your drive will erase all the existing files on it. If your external hard drive contains anything of use, ensure to back it up before proceeding.
